Genie Abrams "Louey Levy's Greatest Catch" Featured

Genie Abrams spent her early years in the City of Newburgh- and moved back a few years ago. As an author she has recounted those memories in a new book "Louey Levy's Greatest Catch", a work of fiction, but based on some real characters and real events.

We at the Palatine Shop are proud to carry the book. We have signed copies available at $15.95.

Postcard Project Complete!

Our limited edition postcard series is now a complete set of 52 collectible postcards. Click on the "2009 Postcard Series" link on the right to view them all. Thanks to all you collectors who followed the series throughout the year. For those of you who didn't, we still have more of every postcard.

Celebrating Our First Anniversary, Saturday, December 5!

Newburgh has a rich history and as we've discovered over the past year, it's appreciated by many people, even those who have left long ago.

Our case is now packed full of antique Newburgh souvenirs. If you haven't visited us lately we've gathered quite a collection. We're continuing our successful limited edition postcard series. We're up to #44 and won't stop until we're up to #52. Check out our wall display. And click on the link at the left for the list of all of them so far...

Recently we were given the opportunity to offer some samplings of the work by a Newburgh business that's been getting some great press recently, Thornwillow Press. Their items are usually seen in high end retail shops in NYC, but through our shop, we now have a selection of holiday offerings that are quite impressive. Below is a photo of the folding table lanterns. They come packaged in these trifold envelopes and fold flat for shipping and storing. They make great gifts! We also have packages of 10 letterpress holiday cards with envelopes and great gift tags that also make incredible tree ornaments.

Last year we got many requests for the laser wand that lights our sidewalk in front of the shop after dark. Holography artist, Rudie Berkhout, developed these a few years ago. We're now stocking the Laser Wand, a laser pointer with a custom diffraction grating the splits the laser beam into galaxies of points of light. Currently there's a comprehensive exhibit of his life work in Catskill at the Union Mills Gallery, 361 Main Street, through January 10, 2010. This is the largest exhibit ever of his work and it will be moving on to museums around the world from there. His holography work is breathtaking!

We still have signed copies of "River of Dreams", the history of the Hudson River by Hudson Talbott, but they're going fast! We also have a selection of Mary Evelyn Whitehill's ever popular greeting cards, reproductions of the 1891 Nutt's Newburgh and the 1909 program. Great gifts for those who appreciate Newburgh's great history. Check out our offerings at the bottom of this site. Stop in on Saturday and say hello! Thanks for your business. 2009: The 300th Anniversary of Newburgh!

New York State is celebrating the 400th anniversary of Henrik Hudson's sail up the Hudson River in 1709- the first European expedition to do so- and Samuel de Champlain's expedition that took him to first gaze upon the lake that bears his name in the same year. This is also the 200th anniversary of Robert Fulton's first steamboat trip up the Hudson River.

Newburgh is simultaneously celebrating its 300th anniversary. The Palatines arrived from the Palatinate along the Rhine River in Germany in the Spring of 1709 as its first European settlers having been issued a patent by the Queen of England.

As THE source for Newburgh memorabilia, we will be introducing new souvenirs to commemorate and celebrate Newburgh's history past and present in this banner year. As our first offering we are publishing a limited edition postcard every week in 2009. Watch for the introduction of the first card next week!

December 6, 2008 Grand Opening Press Release

Newburgh, NY, November 28, 2008. The Palatine Shop is holding its Grand Opening on Saturday, December 6 from 2 – 6 pm at 87 Liberty Street, in the heart of Newburgh’s Heritage Corridor. At the same location in July, co-owners Michael Gabor and Gerardo Castro opened Newburgh Art Supply, which has been successful and occupying most of their attention.

The Palatine Shop, featuring Newburgh memorabilia and souvenirs, has been developing since July and is now ready to be officially introduced. The shop is perfectly located, right across the street from Washington’s Headquarters, Newburgh’s best known and most popular tourist attraction. In addition to a large selection of plates with images of Washington’s Headquarters and other historic sites, you can find reproduction postcards and books of Newburgh’s history, Mary Evelyn Whitehill’s greeting cards, and antique souvenirs. Building on their existing inventory, new items include Newburgh-themed T-shirts and paperweights.

The Palatine Shop will serve light refreshments at its Grand Opening, including baked goods from Heart’s Delight Bakery, soon to open next door. The Palatine Shop is proud to be part of Newburgh’s renaissance on historic Liberty Street, along with other businesses that have opened in the past few years, and more slated to open in the coming months.
